Tauranga driver Adam Mayor won the main event at Eastland Kart Club's annual club champs at its Te Maanga Road track on Sunday.

Mayor won the main-event final over 10 laps, recorded the fastest lap of the day — 19.255 seconds — and passed more karts than anyone else.

Drivers were split into three groups for the main event. The aim was to make the one-off final.

Two repechage heats were held as a last-chance route to the final. The top two drivers from each heat went through.

Drivers could go up or down a group as the day's racing progressed. It was all dependent on race placings, not times.

In group A, Seth Hall had three wins and Mayor had one.

Mayor had three second placings and Tyler Barwick, one.

Caleb Stichbury, Mike Vita, Harley Davis and Tessa Irvine each had a third placing.

Group B winners were Mike Vita (two), Harley Davis and Logan Irvine.

Seth Hall, Logan Irvine, Ben Adcock and Daniel Taylor each had a second placing, and Harley Davis, Ben Adcock, Daniel Taylor and Tyler Barwick each had a third.

Group C winners were Shaun Barwick (two), Tessa Irvine and Daniel Taylor.

Second placings went to Hamish Worsnop (two), Logan Irvine and Tyler Barwick, while Hamish Worsnop, Tessa Irvine, Caleb Stichbury and Aengus Bettridge each had a third.

Tyler Barwick and Mike Vita won the two repechage heats, and Ben Adcock and Caleb Stichbury were second, so these four drivers went into the final.

Hamish Worsnop and Aengus Bettridge just missed out, finishing third in the repechage heats.

At the end of the 10-lap final, the top four were Mayor, first; Seth Hall, second; Mike Vita, third; and Shaun Barwick, fourth.

The day's racing was close and fast, which kept spectators entertained.

The rookie and junior classes each had four races for points, with drivers being assigned front, middle and back starts.

In the rookies, Kolten Irvine — in his first meeting — was overall winner, with three wins and a second placing. Geo Gooch was second overall.

In the juniors, Pyper Irvine had two wins, a second placing and a third. Nixen Gooch had a win and three seconds.

They were tied on points, so a run-off was held. Irvine won this to take first place overall.

Nixen was second overall and Indigo McGuinness, with a win and three thirds, was third overall.

Cherrywood Joinery Ltd sponsored the club champs, 44 Creations made the sashes and Tradezone Gisborne provided the spot prizes.
