Tolaga Bay Bowling Club is hosting the Bowls Gisborne East Coast Centre men’s and women’s two-day fours competitions that get under way at 8.30am tomorrow.
The JJ Martin Memorial trophy will be at stake once again for the men’s event and the centre is indebted to Joe Martin’s grandsons, Joeand Frank, for their sponsorship that has continued for many years.
The nine men’s teams entered (skip names only) are Vern Marshall and Mike Atkins (Tolaga Bay); Jamey Ferris, Rod Young, Charlie Ure and Mal Trowell (Gisborne); Steve Berezowski and Lex Kennedy (Poverty Bay); and David File (Te Karaka).
Seven women’s teams, skipped by Bev Rogers, Betty Herring and Jan Powell (Poverty Bay); Bobbie Beattie, Carol Hawes and Barbara Gibson (Gisborne) and Glenys Whiteman (Kahutia), will be playing for the Rahiwi Cup.
Both events will have the same conditions of play — four games of 15 ends or a two-hour time limit on Saturday.
