Losses for HBPB and PBEC at national interprovincials

Tairawhiti golfers were brought back to Earth in the morning round of Day 2 of the national interprovincial golf championships in the Bay of Plenty.

Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay lost 4-1 to Canterbury in the women's competition while Poverty Bay-East Coast fell by the same margin to Otago in the men's tournament.

Gisborne players Tessa McDonald and Ellen Ball had contrasting matches on the Omanu course in Mount Maunganui.

McDonald, at No.1 in the five-woman HBPB team, came from behind to beat Alisia Ren 1-up.

That made it three wins from as many matches for McDonald so far.

No.2 Ball, who won both her matches on Day 1, was thumped 8 and 6 by Catherine Bell.

No.4 Kayla Van de ven remained unbeaten for the tournament in halving her match with Nicola Webb.

Dwayne Russell continued his outstanding form for PBEC as they went down tto Otago on the Tauranga course.

Russell, at No.3, beat Brandon Hodgson 2 and 1 for his third consecutive win.

No.1 William Brown lost 3 and 1 to Inia Logan; No.2 Andrew Higham lost 1-down to Ryan Bellamy; No.4 Hukanui Brown lost 6 and 5 to Parker Aluesi; and No.5 Shayde Skudder lost 3 and 2 to William McLauchlan.

HBPB women faced Taranaki in this afternoon's round while PBEC men were up against Wellington.
