Lola Bayram won her silver star for five Poverty Bay-East Coast indoor bowls centre titles, when she, skip Bryan Pulley and Warren Edlin won the centre opening trios. They defeated Kevin Lee, Nanette Treloar and Pauline Stone 10-7 in the nine-end final.

Pulley’s team were 3-1 up after three ends. On End 4, Pulley had a great chance to push the kitty sideways for at least four shots, but he played too narrow, leaving Stone holding the point.

Stone’s team then took control, collecting two points on both End 5 and End 6, then one point on End 7 to be in command at 7-3.

On End 8, Pulley held only one point, with Stone having last bowl. But instead of throwing her bowl away and conceding just one point (which would have left her team in command, 7-4, going into the final end and having last bowl), Stone tried to draw shot. She played way too heavy, killing the end and giving Pulley’s team three penalty points for the killed end, meaning Pulley was back in the game, one point behind at 7-6. On the final end, Pulley’s team came together, drawing well. Again, Stone played heavy into the head, killing the end and giving Pulley three more penalty points. Pulley’s team now led 9-7.

An extra end was played, and Pulley’s team picked up a point for the 10-7 win.
