The “logjam” that has developed at the tail end of the premier grade netball competition could be freed up a little tomorrow night, depending on results.

Pak'nSave premier competition table toppers YMP (1) and Claydens Waikohu (1) remain well clear of the chasing pack, but the pack are all within two points of each other on the points table.

JT Contractors Horouta Gold and Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls' High Schol sit third and fourth on 11 points, F45 High School Old Girls have 10, and Whangara Old Girls nine.

Only two of those teams will join YMP and Waikohu in the top four and one of them will take on Waikohu tomorrow night.

The 6pm game against Waikohu will be a real challenge for Horouta.

Horouta Gold have improved since the beginning of the season and have been working together as a team on attack and defence.

However, Waikohu have also been developing their team links well and are moving the ball speedily and efficiently through the court to be sitting second on the table.

Both teams have had close games in the past week.

Waikohu just pulled ahead in the last five minutes of their game against High School Old Girls and Horouta Gold had that exciting draw with Girls' High Senior A on Saturday.

Waikohu pressured Horouta Gold into making errors in their last game and pulled away, but if Horouta can minimise those errors, the game could be a close contest tomorrow night.

The real chance to open up the logjam a bit comes at 7.30pm tomorrow night when Whangara Old Girls front up to Girls' High Senior A.

These teams have had a win apiece in their meetings this season. As Girls' High School's margin of defeat in the last game was within five goals the students earned a losing bonus point.

Both teams are in the logjam of teams fighting for a place in the top four, so they will both have targeted this game as one to win.

Last time they met both teams had their chances to pull away, but the opposition stopped them and the score remained close for the whole game.

Another close, competitive game can be expected at the YMCA tomorrow night.
