SPRING is only weeks away, and local tennis is gearing up already at the Gisborne Tennis Club courts in Childers Road.
The local club has signed up to be part of the nationwide Love Tennis weekend to be held on September 7 and 8 from 1pm to 4pm each day.
Visiting Eastern Tennis development officer Sean Davies and Hawke’s Bay coach Janine Perkinson spent time with club volunteers helping to put the event in place.
Janine and local coach Noel Craft put some local junior players through their paces with the emphasis on games and fun-based skills.
Gisborne Tennis Club president Brent Lowry said the Love Tennis weekend would be an opportunity for new and former players of any age to take the court for free activities run by club volunteers and coaches. Spare rackets would be available.
