GISBORNE will be represented on both sides of Hallyburton Johnstone Shield women’s cricket matches in Levin today and tomorrow.

All-rounder Kayley Knight is in the squad for Northern Districts, while former Gisborne cricketer Kerry Tomlinson, now based in Hawke’s Bay, is in the opposing Central Hinds squad. Today’s game was to start at 10.30am and tomorrow’s, at 10am.

In men’s Plunket Shield cricket, the Central Stags took the maximum 20 points from their first outright victory of the New Zealand first-class championship season, beating the Wellington Firebirds by seven wickets at the Basin Reserve with a session to spare on Thursday. The Stags leapfrogged both the Firebirds and Otago Volts to sit second, within striking distance of undefeated pre-Christmas leaders and defending champions Canterbury.
