A girls-only triangular tournament was held at Te Wharau School this week to promote the FIFA Live Your Goals week to encourage girls and women to play football.

Te Hapara Flyers won the tournament, which was organised by Central Football.

Ormond, Te Hapara and Te Wharau provided two teams each for the tournament, and all players received posters, cards and wristbands. Lots of spot prizes of footballs and T-shirts added to the enjoyment.

This was the second Live Your Goals week. Last year’s promotion reached over 9000 females in over 100 festivals nationwide.

The aim is to foster awareness of girls’ and women’s football, and ensure more females are playing and enjoying football.

Live Your Goals week started last Saturday and finishes tomorrow. The timing was changed from September to February to coincide with the registration window for winter football, thereby encouraging girls and women to sign up for a team.
