It's been proven that they're human: but they're still No.1.

Previously unbeaten Senior B competition leaders Ngatapa lost to defending champions the High School Old Boys' Presidents on February 19 yet go into tomorrow's match with the Gisborne Boys' High School second 11 as red-hot favourites.

The Round 13 clash on Harry Barker Reserve ground 1 will be Boys' High's last hurrah, with this being the last week of regular season play: they have no chance of a semifinal berth. The fifth-placed Campion College first 11 has a mathematical chance of fourth spot, if they beat OBR on HBR 4 with a net run-rate superior to that of the Presidents, while Horouta Te Waka's Mel Knight wants to see all-round improvement from her green and gold crew v HSOB on the practice wicket.

Umpire James Raroa will stand in HSOB v Horouta while Gary Coutts, who with Marty Bennett did a solid job for the GBHS Colts and Napier BHS here on Monday-Tuesday, will oversee OBR-Campion.

All 30-over B Grade games have a 2pm start.

They were that good, they've been invited back.

GBHS squad members Jack Holden and Zyden Worsnop will again turn out for their family club OBR v Campion, with OBR receiving a big boost in regular captain Craig Christophers' return. The father-son combination of left-handers Deevon and Johnathan Gray is more than useful while the point of interest, leaderboard-wise, will feature the competition's two best bowlers.

Veteran left-armer George Reynolds, with 20 wickets, has one scalp more than Campion spearhead Rhys Grogan. Both have been superb this season, Reynolds and his new-ball partner Lloyd van Zyl - who hits the deck hard - taking 4-16 and 3-15 respectively when the teams first met.

Grogan later grabbed 3-15, his off-sider Connor Starck 3-25 in that three wicket-win to OBR on November 27. Campion captain Hamish Swann has his team batting for their full complement of 30 overs as a priority.

Christophers scored 106 from No 1 in the OBR premier's 78-run win v the Galaxy World GBHS first 11 a fortnight ago and that is a measure of his club's batting resources: gloveman Thom Berry hit 120 last Saturday v Ngatapa, and Campion must pitch the ball up if they're to keep Christophers and Berry on a tight leash at the top of the order.

Horouta Te Waka have worked long, hard and smart to get to where they are on the table.

They crushed OBR by 151 runs in R.11 and are coming off a four wicket-win against Campion. They go into action under former Northern Spirit off-spinner Mel Knight with slow leftie Mike Tapp bowling well - he took 3-14 and seamer Billy Morse 3-13 last weekend - and, in the grade's most prolific batsman, Aman Kamboj (279 runs at an average of 35), a strokemaker the equal of Harmanpreet Gill (63 not-out v Campion) or Chaitanya Sambare (86 v OBR, R.11).

Knight wants Horouta to be positive, but their attacking bent to be selective, with bat in hand. For HSOB, player numbers for Saturday will allow the club's senior statesman Glen Udall to turn out for the more mature set and take the gloves for skipper Needham.

Tall off-spinner Simon Blaker, leg-spinning all-rounder Jarrod Renouf, speedster Jason Lines and batsman Matt Jefferd come into the team and it is a powerful side. Needham and Jeff Chambers sit at 3 and 6 on the batting leaderboard and so a win to Te Waka against this line-up would give Horouta a huge lift ahead of next Saturday's 1 v 4, 2 v 3 semi-finals.

A week ago, for the Boys' High second 11 to beat Hope Cup holders HSOB Presidents was a pipe dream.

And it would be unfair not to note that, with absences, the older side had a very youthful component.

But Lukas Fry led the team to their first win of the season last Saturday and they will field their strongest team to date in this their last outing. Big left-hander Jarrod Ormiston showed stickability for the GBHS first 11 on Monday evening and more true grit on Tuesday morning as the hosts drew the traditional two-day game with Napier here. On Wednesday, but for the Blues and Royals v Life Guards Challenge Cup T20 match having to be abandoned, he would have his first century.

Ormiston and regular captain George Gillies are both back in harness for the seconds, while competition leaders Ngatapa have quality players in Grant Walsh, hat-trick hero of a fortnight ago Zac Borrie, fearsome paceman Ryan West and skipper Mike Gibson all on deck.

Gibson took 3-43 in five overs v OBR last weekend and his Green Caps also now have an unknown quantity in Brandon Fiebig. GBHS is still the youngest team in the grade but they now have the potential to be competitive: until last weekend, they were not.

Gillies said: “I'd like 150 runs - at least - on the board, and our bowling needs to be tight. We need to hold all of our catches and we can't afford more than 20 extras.”
