REX Kennedy defeated David Ou in Gisborne Cosmopolitan Snooker Club’s President’s Trophy final last Saturday.

The competition was played on handicap and contested by those players who were winners or runners-up in club competitions this year.

A full field of 16 took part. Eight players qualified for the main event and eight went into the plate competition.

Phil Thompson, Ou, Nathan Coombs and Kennedy made the semifinals of the main event.

Ou defeated Thompson, and Kennedy defeated Coombs.

Kennedy’s victory over Ou in the final was the culmination of good play by Kennedy throughout the tournament.

In the plate semifinals, Bill Raggett defeated Les Bryon, and John Warren defeated John Berry.

Warren defeated Raggett in the plate final.

The snooker club annual general meeting will be held on Saturday, December 8, and will be followed by a snooker dash and barbecue.
