Te Wharau School’s Compton Pari. Pictures by Paul Rickard
In the first picture in the gallery above, Te Wharau School’s Compton Pari does a mean George Bridge impression as he spectacularly avoids the tackle attempt of a Riverdale player at the Primary Interschool 7s tournament on what was renamed “Rectory Stadium” for the event.
Mangapapa School were the champions
in the boys and girls divisions. Mangapapa boys defeated Te Wharau 20-15 in a thrilling final. Mangapapa girls finished tied with Awapuni but had a superior points differential.
A record 21 teams competed — 14 in the boys section, seven in the girls. Plenty of skill and passion were on display, along with a strong sense of fairplay. Gisborne Boys’ High Year 13 students ran the day, including creating a stadium-like atmosphere.
They also selected the four Most Valuable Player award recipients — Hine Brooking (Mang), Georgie Beaufoy (Makauri), Jerome Tamatea (Mang) and Sio Tavake (Te Wharau). Each received a rugby ball.
