WAINUI surf lifesaver Jack Keepa topped an invitation-only field of over 30 under-14 competitors at the Mini Monster multi-discipline race. He completed the 100 metres sprint, 600m swim, 600m run, 1.2-kilometre board paddle and 700m run to the finish line in 15 minutes 57 seconds.
He was eight seconds aheadof second-placed Jayden Murphy of the Mount Maunganui club.
Keepa’s clubmate Jonty Evans was seventh in 17.04.
The Mini Monster was a prelude to the popular and gruelling 25km Mount Monster.
Keepa was back racing the next day in the blue and white cap at the Bay of Plenty junior championships at Papamoa, where he collected several top three placings in the u14 boys’ division including wins in the diamond and surf races.
