ILMINSTER Intermediate indoor bowls team added bronze to silver at the AIMS Games in Mt Maunganui yesterday.

Inia Hailey and Pauliasi Tonga placed third in the indoor bowls pairs held at the Baypark Arena. The duo lost 2-0 in the semifinals but bounced back to win the bronze medal playoff 2-1.

It gave Ilminster a second medal on the mats after Sitiveni Tauilautala’s silver in the singles.

The school was also second overall in the Team Cup standings won by Mt Maunganui Intermediate. Gisborne Intermediate was sitting in the top 10 on the overall medal standings out of more than 260 schools taking part in the week-long event that ended today.

Gis Int’s tally was added to by Ariata Kutia, who won bronze in the girls’ squash. Ariata was beaten 3-2 in the semifinals but won the playoff for third 3-1.

Wairoa College were runners-up in the boys’ rugby sevens. They beat Randwick Park School 26-5 in the semifinals but lost 27-14 to Katikati in the final. It ranked Wairoa 14th out of the 36 schools who competed in the sevens.
