HSOG, YMP yet to be beaten

IMS High School Old Girls and YMP (1) both remain undefeated two games into Round 2 of the Pak’nSave Gisborne Premier Netball Competition.

After beating Whangara the previous weekend, Horouta Gold were expected to be tough competition for HSOG. They did not disappoint, forcing HSOG to dig deep in the final quarter to edge a close game 53-41.

Horouta set the tone, leading 11-10 at the first break.

The teams went point for point in the second quarter, but by halftime Horouta had extended their lead to two goals.

HSOG stepped up their attacking game in the third quarter, overturning the deficit to take a 36-33 lead into the final 15 minutes.

They closed out the game with increasing confidence in attack to end with a 12-goal victory.

Reigning champions YMP continued their dominance in attack, racking up 72 goals against Gisborne Girls’ High School, who were blown away in a 35-goal defeat.

YMP started as they meant to go on, taking a 20-9 first-quarter lead and then netting at will throughout the game to take a 72-37 victory.

YMP’s shooters effectively killed the game off with a 22-goal haul in the second quarter . . . the 42-17 halftime scoreline was always going to be too much for the students to retrieve.
