It was a busy weekend for Poverty Bay Bowling Club’s junior members.

On Saturday they competed in an interclub event organised by the Tairāwhiti Bowls Futures Group.

The club entered a men’s team and a women’s team.

A Te Karaka combination won the tournament. Tournament controller Jon Davies deserves thanks.

Poverty Bay club men — BJ Seymour, Les Whittington, Craig Smith, Rob Hicklin, Scott Amor and Brendon Reavey — were second.

The club’s women — Anna Colvin, Helen Hunt, Jean Patterson, Jenny Amor, Joan Gledhill and Maureen Hicklin — were third.

Players endured hot conditions that tested their mettle.

On Sunday, two teams contested the club championship junior optional fours.

The format was two sets of five ends with a tiebreaker of one end if needed. A tiebreaker was required in the first game but not in the second.

Anna Colvin (skip), Helen Hunt (director), Craig Smith (two) and Brendon Reavey (lead) were the winners and now go on to represent the club at the centre champion of champions tournament.

The runners-up were Jean Patterson (s), Scott Amor (d), Rob Hicklin (2) and Jenny Amor (l).

Both teams played some excellent bowls. The work of tournament controller Erin Sutherland was appreciated.
