Gisborne golfer Tessa McDonald and her Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay teammates had to settle for 12th at the national women’s interprovincial in Hawke’s Bay.

HBPB were beaten 4-1 by Tasman in the positional playoff for 11th and 12th at Napier’s Maraenui course on Saturday.

McDonald, at No.1 in the five-woman team, was beaten 2 and 1 by Lizzie Neale.

The 24-year-old won two of her seven matches over the week. Her losses were all by close margins.

Auckland won the title for the fourth consecutive year, beating Manawatu-Wanganui 3-2 in the final.
