Rob Hayes and Ross Dellaway won the golf croquet open doubles in a period of busy activity at Barry Memorial Croquet Club.

Three pairs contested the title, Hayes and Dellaway taking the honours with three wins.

Christine McCullough and Lynn Davies were second on two wins.

Games were close and many could have gone either way.

Geoff Harkess and Murray Woods won the golf croquet intermediate doubles in which four pairs played two round robins. Harkess and Woods had five wins.

Two pairs – Barb and Will Humphreys, and Ross Smith and Ina Elzen – each had three wins. Smith and Elzen had the better differential, so they took second place.

Two teams of six played a teams tournament.

In the first round, three games were won by only one hoop.

Team Thomson gradually pulled away, eventually winning by 135 hoops to Team McCullough’s 124.

Team Thomson were Ross Thomson, Robert Hopkins, Barb Woods, Ina Elzen, Robyn Chaffey and Denz Ashton.

Des Chaffey and Ashton shared the prize for most hoops. Both had 25.

Ashton was declared the Most Valuable Player for being the only player with three seven-point wins in his four games.

This was an amazing performance, as Ashton has not been playing long and this was his first tournament.
