Bowls Gisborne-East Coast men had a better shot differential but the women could not match the overall scoring power of their opponents in the annual junior intercentre challenge against Hawke’s Bay.

The men’s and women’s teams each played two singles and two triples games in the first round, two fours games in the second and four pairs games in the third.

All games were played at Wairoa Bowling Club.

With two points for a win, Gisborne-East Coast men won both singles (25-9 and 25-8), neither of the triples, one of the fours (15-3) and two of the pairs (15-13 and 20-12).

Hawke’s Bay wins were 27-5 and 15-11 in the triples, 12-8 in the fours, and 13-12 and 23-10 in the pairs.

The men’s points were level, 10-10, but Gisborne’s shot differential was +11.

Gisborne-East Coast women lost both singles and both triples, and won a fours game (13-9) and two of the pairs (14-3 and 17-13).

Hawke’s Bay wins were 24-22 and 22-20 in the singles, 21-14 and 20-4 in the triples, 10-8 in the fours, and 22-9 and 19-11 in the pairs.

Hawke’s Bay won the women’s division 14-6, with a shot differential of +31.

Overall, Hawke’s Bay won the challenge by 24 points to 16, with a shot differential of +20.

The GEC teams were – Men: Geoff Pinn, Kyle Pinn, Liam Pinn, Kelly Te Miha, BJ Seymour, Craig Smith, Greg Flett and Regan Tahuri.

Women: Anna Colvin, Marise Raklander, Delores Woodcock, Lyn Hayes, Jean Patterson, Jackie Horsfall, Win Baker, Nanette Treloar and reserve Jenny Amor.
