TINIROTO’S Susie Hamilton completed a remarkable comeback when she played for New Zealand against England at the Keyte Watson Polo Tournament in Cambridge on Sunday.
Hamilton, 31, broke her leg playing polo in Australia three years ago and thought she would never compete at the top level again.
But shewas called up for the New Zealand team and played in the international against England. New Zealand lost 6-1, although the game was closer than the score suggests.
Hamilton, daughter of Pam and Darcy Hamilton, lives on Kaikino, the family farm at Tiniroto. She grew up with horses and had success in showjumping before she took up polo seven years ago.
Hamilton credits Poverty Bay clubmate Neville Clark with giving her the push that prompted her to move from the sidelines, where she was a groom, on to the field of play.
