BMX world junior champion Jessie Smith, formerly of Gisborne, is among the nominees for the Halberg Awards.

She is in the emerging-talent category.

Now living in Hamilton, Smith won the junior elite world title in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, in July.

She also had a fourth placing in the senior ranks at the World Cup Supercross round in Paris the previous month.

Smith was voted the young sportswoman of the year at the 2019 SportsWoman People's Choice Awards.

The Halberg Awards will be staged in Auckland on February 13.

Eleven nominations were put forward in the emerging-talent category, which is for athletes under the age of 20.
