The Billabong Grom Series' final leg, at Piha, finished prematurely over the weekend as news of Auckland re-entering lockdown forced organisers to put the event on hold.
Local surfers and title hopefuls Asia Braithwaite and Finn Vette both advanced through their first heat, as did Ollie Tong in the under-14
boys.
Braithwaite earned an 8.8 heat total to finish second and put herself in the semifinals, while Vette scored an 11.27 to win his heat and advance to the round of 12.
Gabriel Lobb had yet to surf in the u14 boys' division, while Bonnie Lynch ended her campaign unable to progress through the first round of the u14 girls' division.
