Shane Gray has broken the 19-second barrier for a lap of Eastland Kart Club's Aerodrome Road track.

Gray, a Te Aroha-based member of the Eastland club, does most of his racing on Te Aroha Dirt Kart Club's track but he comes through to Gisborne for the club champs and as the mood takes him.

On Sunday he had the three fastest lap times at the Eastland club's second points meeting of the season.

All three were faster than the previous record of 19.384 seconds set by Robert Gomm in his Rotax kart two weeks before, but only one dipped under the 19-second mark. Gray had held the record before Gomm.

The new mark is 18.808 seconds.

Gray had his Rotax kart flying and took three wins and a third placing in the Rotax class.

He took part in the all-in 10-lap feature race at the end of the meeting but pulled out after his kart hit a tyre wall at a corner.

Daniel Taylor's persistence was rewarded by victory in the feature. Luca Vita was second, Kelvin Bull third and Tim De La Haye fourth.

Wet weather in the days before raceday left the track in good condition for fast times.

In the juniors class, Pyper Irvine had three wins and a third placing.

Nixen Gooch picked up the other win and had two second placings and a third.

Noah Starr had two seconds and two thirds.

In the young guns class, Tim De La Haye won all four races.

Logan Irvine and Hamish Worsnop each had two second placings.

Worsnop also picked up two third placings, while Brodie Gooch and Conrad Gooch each had one third placing.

In the KT heavy class, Fred Winterton was the pick of the drivers. He had two wins and two second placings.

Ben Adcock and Dion Lund had a win each, and Adcock also had two seconds.

Third placings went to Buck Rogers (three) and Dion Lund.

Gray dominated the Rotax class with his three wins and a third placing, but Ben Adcock held off a quality field for a great win.

Luca Vita had three seconds and a third.

Club member Kelvin Bull made the trip from Tauranga again and was rewarded with a second and a third.

Roger Moss had a third placing.

In the KT lights, Luca Vita had three wins and a third. He drives really well, and competes in both the Rotax and KT classes.

His dad Mike Vita had a win, a second and a third.

Daniel Taylor had two seconds and a third.

Seth Hall had a second placing and Robert De La Haye had a third.

In the women's class, Robyn De La Haye earned two wins and a second

Sharyn Rogers and Lyn Lyle had a win each. Rogers also had two seconds, and Lyle had two thirds.

Tessa Irvine had one second placing and one third.

Hayley De La Haye also had a third.

The open class had only two races, both won by Vinzent MacGregor.
