SNOOKER

Phil Thompson, Mickey Cleaver and Tony Dobson ruled the tables in the Poverty Bay A, B and C-grade snooker championships held on the Cosmopolitan Club tables.

The A and C champs were held last weekend; the B-grade event on July 8.

Six players competed for the A-grade title.

Busby Akuhata beat Charlie Atkins two frames to one in one semifinal while Thompson eliminated Tiny Thompson 2-0 in the other.

Phil Thompson defeated Akuhata 2-1 in the final.

Eight players lined up for the B-Grade champs.  Semifinal qualifiers were Cleaver, Victor Lane, Te Rina Hawkins and Dave Duffy.

Cleaver beat Lane 2-0; Duffy knocked out Hawkins 2-0. Cleaver won the final 2-1.

Only two players contested the C-grade champs. Dobson beat Kath McLatchie 2-0.

The Burnie Hart Memorial open tournament is being held at the Cossie on August 5 and 6.  A full field of 32, including several visitors, have entered.
