POVERTY Bay teams have made successful starts to under-13 hockey tournaments in Stratford and Levin.

The PB boys’ team have had two wins at the Curtis Cup tournament in Stratford.

They beat Manawatu 2-1, with goals to Noah Torrance-Cribb and William Matthews.

Torrance Cribb (2), Jack Fletcher (2) and John Broad scored in a 5-0 win against Wanganui.

The PB girls’ team drew 1-1 with Wellington at the Rawleigh Trophy tournament in Levin. Yuna Preddey got their goal from a penalty stroke.

PB then beat Wanganui 3-0 with goals to Annabel Hustler, Jayha Egan and Elle Williams.

Poverty Bay placed third overall at the national under-15 girls’ tournament in Carterton last week. Tiari Pepere scored in extra time in a 1-0 win against Central Otago in the playoff for third.

PB lost 3-0 to tournament winners Canterbury in the semifinals.
