Eastland Go Kart club held their annual best pairs championship on Sunday and the Illuminator Painters-sponsored event was won by Koby Gooch and Shane Ross.

Ross made the four-and-a-half-hour trip to Gisborne for the meeting from Huntly, and raced with the Rotax boys to pick up two wins on the day.

It was a fitting victory for Shane, as the main sponsor of the event and his dedication to travel and race on our track.

Unfortunately, after the second round of racing, the rain came.

It poured down for a good 10 minutes and the committee made the decision to call it a day, as the track was too wet.

With three pairs tied on second place, a marble draw was made to decide the placings.

Vinny McGregor and Ethan Rogers pulled second spot while Conor White and Warwick Thomson grabbed third.

Dana Kingsbeer and Ethan Rogers drew the short straw with fourth.

Ethan raced in two different classes and Dana showed some good pace in her Rotax, picking up two wins.

Alex Rosie kept a cool head, sitting back and waiting for his passing opportunites to take two wins in the KT100 class.

A novelty trophy was handed out to the pair with the least points and it went to Ben Briant and Toby White, after a bit of bad luck and a mechanical failure.

Kacey Rogers did a fantastic job organising the points for the day.

The next meeting will be on February 24.
