WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE: Several water hazards were added to Electrinet Park golf course as Cyclone Hale charged through the district although it mattered not golf-wise, as the course was closed and remained shut today. Wynne MacLellan and Ross Nichol were clearcut winners in the men's net competition on Sunday.

Both returned net 65s, MacLellan winning the senior division by two shots and Nichol five clear in the junior division.

SUNDAY — Men's net, senior division: W MacLellan 65, H Harrison 67, J Neilson 68, P Summersby 68.

Junior division: R Nichol 65, B McKenzie 70, L Jamieson 71, C Kirkpatrick 72.

FRIDAY — Meat pack 9-hole stableford, senior division: R Pardoe 21, T Green 20, T Hindmarsh 20, J Neilson 20, A Hindmarsh 20.

Junior division: D Dodgshun 18, L Jamieson 18, R Nichol 18, G Tattersfield 18, T Coutts 17.

Iritana Ngarimu and Daryl Goldsmith set the early pace in round 1 of the Summer Cup on Sunday.

Ngarimu headed the women with a round of 95-26-69, for 35 stableford points.

Goldsmith's 79-17-62, for 39 points, was best of the men.

SUNDAY — Summer Cup, round 1, stableford, women: I Ngarimu 35, H Miratana 31, H McClutchie 31.

Men: D Goldsmith 39, N Dewes 38, H Rasmussen 37.

Twos: D Cook, I Logan, B Clark.

COMING UP: SUNDAY, Summer Cup, round 2, club meeting.

Te Rata Ritchie and Penny Rutene teed off 2023 with victories in the club net on Sunday.

Ritchie's 85-14-71 was best of the men and Rutene fired 119-47-72 to top the women.

SUNDAY — Men's net: T Ritchie 71, T Brown 72, K Ruru 76.

Women's net: P Rutene 72.

COMING UP: SUNDAY, Summer Cup, round 1.

Wairoa's Sefton Solomon produced a performance befitting an excellent day at the Bayleys New Year open tournament on January 3.

Eight-handicapper Solomon had five birdies in his 2-under 70 off the stick and his 46 points easily won the men's stableford.

Trena Smith posted a more sedate 37 to be the best of the women.

Sun, wind and rain made for a mixed day for the 109-strong field who enjoyed classic Mahia hospitality.

TUESDAY (Jan 3) — Bayleys New Year tournament, women's stableford: T Smith 37, H McClutchie 36, V Kyle 35, Y Diack 35, Maraea Wesche 34, V McQueen 32 on c/b.

Women's non-golfers: L McPhail from K Bowen.

Men's stableford: S Solomon 46, B McEachan 41, I Parker 40, J Tihore 38, T Smith 37, R Hamblyn 36, M Woolhouse 36, W Thompson 36, Wade Wesche 36, B Crowley 36, D Bremner 36, B Lewis 35, D Shelton 35.

Men's non-golfers: M Bowen from G Wilson.

Twos: N Maher, G Shapland, I Parker, N Jones, B Crowley, Wayne Wesche, C Henare.

Approaches: D Henare (women), I Parker (men), J Morunga (non-golfers).

The annual Gisborne Thistle AFC and Judy O'Rourke Memorial Trophy open tournament is at the Park on Sunday, January 22.
