DAVE Hall has directed a few local productions in his time but he couldn't have scripted his first hole-in-one much better.

Hall aced the par-3 112-metre sixth hole at Poverty Bay on Sunday.

He and his playing group watched as his ball soared towards the green, landed about eight-to-10-foot short of the hole, rolled up and dropped in the cup.

Golf Roundup was unable to contact Hall — apparently he is camping at Waikaremoana this week — but playing partner Pete Anderson watched the drama unfold.

Having just hit his tee shot to about 4-foot of the hole, Anderson risked jinxing Hall's brilliant effort 2-foot out.

“I said it's going in”.

The new flagsticks — installed in time for the Poverty Bay Open two weeks ago and sitting much straighter and sturdier in the hole — may well have played a part.

Hall won't care to remember most of the other 17 holes in a round of 97, but he won't forget the one shot that every golfer craves.

Brad Morgan racked up a second consecutive Sunday stableford division 1 win — continuing his strong recent form with 77-9-69, for 39 points.

Scott Muncaster has converted his skills on the basketball court to the fairways, winning the division 2 stableford on Sunday with 88-23-65, for 43 points.

Bill Simpson has endured some tough golfing times of late, not helped by his finger getting squashed when a mate inadvertently pushed the up button to wind up a car window.

The pain eased on Saturday with his round of 90-23-67, for 41 points, which won him the division 2 stableford.

Joe Bryden (41pts) and Colin Christie (41) were also in the 40s in topping their divisions of last Thursday's stableford.

The Carters Building Supplies Thursday twilight weekly golf teed off last week with Lytton High teachers at both ends of the results.

Matt Henwood won the 9-hole stableford with 22 points while Craig Christophers was at the bottom of the 66-strong field with 10.

In Christophers' defence, he was wearing the “monkey on the back” — a cuddly toy monkey that wraps around the player and is worn each week by the player who finished last the previous Thursday.

Christophers will be required to wear it again today in what has been called the “back-to-back monkey”.

Henwood's win set the pace in qualifying for the top 10 shootout held at the end of the twilight season. The shootout winner will pocket $1000.

The course was closed on Saturday due to the weather and reopened yesterday.

“Fabulous” weather and an “amazing” Dannevirke course could not inspire Northern to victory in the recent Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay women's inte-rzone.

The Northern Zone team, covering an area from Te Puia Springs to Wairoa, relinquished the silverware after finishing third of the three zones.

Hiria McClutchie (Te Puia Springs) and Carolyn Carpendale (Electrinet Park) were the best of the Northern Zone crew. They posted 48 points each over the 27 holes.

Central won the title for the first time in 12 years. They ended with an aggregate total of 696 points, with Southern second on 684 and Northern on 633.

Peri Gayford — one of two Northern Zone reps, the other being Mary Allan — had high praise for the course and clubhouse.

“Dannevirke is amazing,” she said.

The weather forecast was “the pits” but it turned out “fabulous”, she said. And the clubhouse is “beautiful”.
