MARG Tuapawa was the star of the show as Waikohu drew first blood in round 1 of the Poverty Bay women's pennants on Saturday.

The pennants were held as part of the Patutahi women's open tournament and Tuapawa had the round of the day.

Not only did she win the junior division net with her first sub-100 score in over four years —99-36-63 — Tuapawa also anchored Waikohu's comfortable pennants victory.

The format for the first round was net and Waikohu ended with a total of 287, 11 shots clear of defending champions Te Puia Springs (298), with Poverty Bay third on 301.

It gave Waikohu the maximum seven team points in what is a tight scoring system of seven down to one for the competing seven clubs.

AN eagle-3 on the par-5 13th proved the difference as Zane Boyle advanced to the semifinals of the Men's Handicap Cup at the weekend.

Boyle denied +5-handicapper and defending champion Anaru Reedy the chance to add to his silverware collection with a 1-up win in their senior men's matchplay clash.

Boyle's win put him into semifinal against Rod Taylor, who looks to be in solid form after winning the men's net.

The other senior semi pits Anthony Pahina against the winner of the match between Ray Walford and last year's runner-up Rod Moore.

It will be High School Old Boys premier rugby team coach versus High School Old Boys premier team rugby captain when Danny Boyle and Tamanui Hill meet in the intermediate semis.

Tom Reynolds and Glen McKinnon will decide the other finalist.

The junior semis features the battle of the Joshes – Taylor v Hayes — and Shaun Pahina taking on Darrel Gregory.

The Women's Handicap Cup features several interesting duels — Jean Foot v Di Webb, who will be hungry to go one better than her recent Agnes Attwood Cup final defeat; Agnes Attwood winner Kath Papuni v Carney Pipi; and Jacque Akuhata-Nickerson v Tai Aramakutu.

HOT scoring was not needed to win the 2021 edition of the Bull Cup men's team aggregate stableford.

Nor was handicap golf.

A total of 136 off the championship tees was enough for the Thursday crew of Brent Colbert, Gray Clapham, Bill Allen and Glenn Morley to claim a trophy with plenty of history.

Colbert (38pts) was the only player to dip under his handicap, 2-handicapper Morley had 34, Clapham 33 and Allen 31.

They were just one point ahead of Saturday group Colin Christie (39), Duncan Bush (33), Vance Richardson (33) and Cliff Poole (30).

Teams had the option of playing either Thursday, Saturday or Sunday in the Bull Cup, which in recent years has been reduced from 36 to 18 holes.
