TWO new names are to be engraved on the Peter Rouse Memorial trophies.
Bill Clark — a long-time club member and friend of Rouse — won the men's net title and Doreen Goldsmith the women's at the annual tournament that celebrates the life of the late great East Coast legend.
Goldsmith did it in style, officially going under 100 for the first time to win the women's silverware with 96-33-66.
Clark, in only his fourth 18 holes of the year, won the men's section with 74-11-63. It earned him the King of the Coast tankard Rouse was presented with in winning the 1999 King of the Coast.
Goldsmith and Clark continued the tradition of Te Puia players winning both titles at the seven-year-old tournament where the memory of Rouse comes to the forefront — although the number of times PD Rouse appears on the club honours boards and various pieces of Rouse memorabilia on the clubhouse walls are a constant reminder.
Brian Morrissey, who shifted from Te Puia to Poverty Bay years ago, won the 2019 title but is East Coast at heart.
Raana Walker (2014 and 2015) remains the only player to have won the Peter Rouse Memorial twice.
The Te Puia Springs team for the opening round of the Poverty Bay women's pennants at Patutahi on Saturday are Hazel Miratana, Iritana Ngarimu, Georgina Roberts and Pauline Summersby.
