Te Puia Hot Springs

Happy new golfing year Bill Clark.

Former  Poverty Bay-East Coast representative Clark teed off 2024 in supreme style in Round 1 of the Summer Cup series on Sunday.

Clark had his best round since March 20 of 2022 — 74-15-59 — to win the men’s stableford with 43 points.

He dropped just two shots in a back nine of 34 and left the field spitting out his dust, seven points adrift.

In his first 18 holes of 2024, Pittar signed for 98-35-63 — his first round under 100 since March 9, 2022.

Pittar had matching nines of 49 and his performance deservedly won him the junior men’s net.

There was a signal of things to come from the long-time Patutahi member two days before. Pittar had 22  points in the meat pack 9-hole stableford on Friday although it was only good enough for third in the 9+ handicap division.

Warwick Stevens won with 23 points on countback from Matt White.

The up-to-8 handicap section was a family 1-2. Electrinet Park’s Shannon Toa fired an even-par 35 for 22 points while son Blue was second on 21.

SUNDAY — Net competition, senior men’s division: P Molloy 64, T Green 66, T Brodie 68, M Smith 69, B Cameron 70.

Junior men: S Pittar 63, A Nimmo 65, G Holland 66, L Jamieson 68, D Quinn 68.

Women: H Humble 71.

Twos: S Robertson, B Cameron.

FRIDAY — Meat pack 9-hole stableford, up to 8 handicap: S Toa 22, Blue Toa 21, A Hindmarsh 21, T Brodie 20, C Beattie 20, H Harris 19.

9+ handicap: W Stephens 23, M White 23, S Pittar 22, P Tinnelly 22, H Pomana 21, S Fookes 20.

Poverty Bay

Here’s Johnny.

Popular member Johnny Kerekere is back in regular golfing business after a nine-month absence.

JK didn’t light it up but was in the division 1 men’s stableford money on Saturday and Sunday with 37 and 36-point hauls.

The weekend, however, belonged to Handy Andy.

Having been a Wayward Hayward on Thursday, Andy Hayward bounced back with a div 1 stableford-winning double.

He fired 77-10-67 for 41 points on Saturday and rode that wave into Sunday with 79-10-69 for 39.

Hayward denied Glenn Morley the division win — the Sunday School’s most consistent player in 2023 shooting 1-over 73-3-70, for 38 points, including birdies on the 12th, 13th and 14th,

Koro Miringaorangi  (39) and Colin Christie (37) were the other weekend winners.

SUNDAY — Men’s stableford, division 1: A Hayward 39, G Morley 38, B Brown 36, J Kerekere 36.

Division 2: K Miringaorangi  39, B Talbot 39, R Young 38.

Twos: L Hewson, A Hayward, D Pirimona, J Van Helden.

There will be men’s women and non-golfers’ sections, and a Carters hole-in-one mystery prize on the second hole.
