Another round, another feat to add to Anaru Reedy’s list of achievements.

The recently-elected Tairawhiti Golf Association president shot a personal-best 8-under 64 at the East Coast Fire Brigades tournament on Sunday — the lowest score ever posted on the Park men’s course.

Due to there being placing and it not being an individual strokeplay event — as advised by Golf NZ — it is not a course record, however, it is recognised as an official “best gross score”.

Reedy’s effort was all the more eye-raising as it included a bogey.

Starting off the 10th tee, he chipped in for birdie-3 but made bogey-5 the next hole after tree trouble off the tee forced him to take a penalty drop.

He birdied the par-5 13th after hitting it for two, then added birdies on the 14th and 15th.

The 17th was a Houdini act. He chipped in again for birdie after finding trees with his drive.

Out in 4-under 32, Reedy birdied the first, sixth, seventh and ninth holes and reckoned he should have had a birdie on the third as well.

Reedy’s previous best at the Park was 66 and he also shot 7-under 65 at Poverty Bay. He still holds the course record of 4-under 66 at Wellington’s tough Karori course.

The course record off the white tees is 65 set by Brian Sexton back in 1986.

Daniel Collier (September 2015) and Tene Goldsmith (January 2011) jointly hold the blue championship tee record of 65.

Leo Lexmond also had a 64 at the fire brigades tournament — net 64.

The 36-handicapper’s best round in years — 100-36-64 — featured five four-pointers, or double nets, including parring all four par-3s.

Barbara Woods broke 100 for the first time in 19 rounds on Wednesday of last week and did it in style. Her 92-27-65, for 44 points, won the women’s stableford.

BAD holes in golf usually cost you more than good holes reward you.

Dave Jenkins will vouch for that although he did come out on top on Saturday in a predominantly pleasurable experience with one painful exception.

“Jenks” won the division 1 men’s stablefeord with 76-10-66, for 43 points — birdies on the fifth, sixth and 10th holes negated by a triple-bogey six on the par-3 11th.

Despite that glitch, it was his best round since May 2020.

Former Poverty Bay Heartland Championship rugby team skipper Ken Houkamau is chalking up success on a different field.

He won the division 2 men’s stableford on Sunday with 91-24-67, for 41 points.
