POVERTY Bay Heartland Championship player Ethine Reeves converted his rugby skills to the fairway at Waikohu’s open opening day tournament at the weekend.

Reeves won the men’s stableford with 37 points and picked up the junior men’s approach and long drive.

Locals topped the Canadian mixed pairs stableford — Uma Chambers and Cheryl Te Rito winning on countback from Larry Green and Val Grace after both pairs posted 35 points.

William Brown returned to the course he learned the game on to win the gross with 4-under 70.

Aaron Coker’s 91-23-68 won the net.

ANDY Hayward top qualified for the Reynolds Cup on Saturday, then cleared his first matchplay hurdle on Sunday, but in his own words “it wasn’t pretty”.

Men’s club captain Haynard earned the No.1 slot in the net strokeplay qualifying round on Saturday with 78-11-67, birdies on the 16th and 17th holes proving vital.

He played his first-round match against John Van Helden on Saturday and needed an extra hole to advance.

In Saturday qualifying, Stefan Andreassen had three birdies in four holes (10th, 12th and 13th) to grab the No.2 spot with 74-5-69 on countback from Darryn White and Phil Wauchop.

Teresa Lewis top qualified for the Oman Cup women’s matchplay.

Lewis’s net 72 was good enough to give her the No.1 seeding.

Kirsty Shaw won the women’s bisque par on countback on Monday with a +7 effort.

Anne Witters won the Wednesday stableford with 37 points.

THE men’s Handicap Cup matchplay finalists have been sorted.

Anaru Reedy and Peter Stewart will do battle for the Holmes Cup senior men’s title.

Both won their semifinals on the 16th — Reedy beating Rod Moore and Stewart overcoming Anthony Pahina.

Club president Wayne Carpendale advanced to the Presidents Cup intermediate final courtesy of Phil Nepia while Henwood knocked out comeback kid James Witika 3 and 2.

Jordan Coppen was too strong for life member Ray Grace in their Chrisp Cup junior semi. Next up is Glyn Williams, who eliminated Dave Harrison on the 16th.

The Women’s Handicap Cup is into the semifinals stage.

Kino White and Tracey Ford face off in one semi and Barb Woods and Kath Papuni in the other.

Janet Muir was in fine form last week, winning the women’s hidden holes stableford with 15 points for the six holes in a round of 86-21-65.

Mike Christophers had the “hole of the week” during last Thursday’s Diggit Gizzy twilight 9-hole stableford.

Christophers drove the 295-metre par-4 12th and slotted his putt for eagle-2. He went on to win the twilight with 22 points from a 1-over 37 off the stick, including a birdie on 18.

Saturday — Men’s stableford: D Te Maro 39, R Taylor 38.

Wednesday (Feb 23) — Women’s stableford over six hidden holes: J Muir 15, B Walker 14.

The Women’s Handicap Cup semifinals are on SATURDAY. The draw is — No.1 tee, 9am: K White v T Ford, B Woods v K Papuni. 9.06: J Akuhata-Nickerson v C Carpendale, C Pipi v B Walker.

ASHLEY Hindmarsh, Brian Pohatu and Helen Pomana were the Sunday competition winners.

Hindmarsh shot 76-11-65 to win the senior men’s division, Pohatu 82-16-66 to top the junior men and Pomana 89-17-72 to head the women’s division.

Two twos stood out on Shelley Robertson’s card in the women’s net on Tuesday.

Robertson made twos on the 12th and 15th holes in her winning effort of 84-14-70.

TUESDAY — Peter Pan women’s net: S Robertson 84-14-70, L Haisman 97-25-72.

Twos: S Robertson 2.

SUNDAY — Men’s net, senior division: A Hindmarsh 65, J Neilson 66, S Marsh 67, D Pohatu 70.
