Patutahi

Mike de Luze had a profitable Sunday end to 2023.

De Luze won the junior men’s net on Christmas Eve with his low round of the year — 80-16-64 — then achieved the jackpot in the New Year’s Eve club competition.

The winners of the New Year’s Eve net were Mason Smith (68, senior men); Michael Broad (67, junior men) and Diane Johnston (711, women).

Jace Brown eagled the 274-metre par-4 third hole and had a two on the par-3 sixth.

Electrinet Park

Tairāwhiti masters representative Pete Stewart got 2024 off to a career milestone start at the Park on Tuesday.

The man known as “Legend” shot 1-under 71 off the white tees — his first sub-par round.

That he hadn’t been in red figures before would be a surprise to some considering the quality of a player who has been an integral part of Park’s Oligoi Jug men’s interclub pennants success over the past two years.

Stewart was  naturally delighted with his efforts, which featured three birdies — including two twos — in his opening five holes, and another two on the 15th and 16th holes.

He signed for 71-4-67 and was no doubt helped along by playing partner and Tairāwhiti national interprovincials rep Daniel Collier, who carded 72.

“Hope more is to come,” Stewart said on Facebook.

Poverty Bay

Duncan Bush is leading the pack heading into Round 3 of the Summer Cup men’s net series on Saturday.

Bush holds a three-stroke advantage after the opening two rounds of the five-round series from which players count their best three scores.

He is sitting on 145 (74, 71), with first-round leader Kim Travers on 148 (69, 79), Stefan Andreassen 150 (75, 75) and Vance Richardson 150 (75, 75).

Waikohu

Percy Milner and Ella Wynyard won the 9-hole stableford on Sunday.

Nineteen points from each was good enough.

The club are holding a “New Year rally” this Sunday, teeing off at 11am. New members are welcome.

SUNDAY — 9-hole stableford, men: P Milner 19, T Smith 18, K Ruru 12.

Women: E Wynyard 19, A Tamanui-Nunn 18, C Te Rito 15.

COMING UP: SUNDAY, New Year rally, new members welcome, 11am tee-off; SUNDAY, Summer Cup first round, 11am tee-off.

Tolaga Bay

Cale Henstock shot 127 in his first official round at Tolaga Bay on August 13 of 2023.

On Sunday he broke 100 for the first time.

Henstock fired 98-37-61 — a 16-shot improvement on his December 28 round.

His 43 points easily won the stableford, four points clear of BJ Sidney and Pete Stevenson.

SUNDAY — Stableford: C Henstock 43, BJ Sidney 39, P Stevenson 39.

Approach: M Watts.
