IKE Ruru made the short trip from Waikohu a productive one as the hams were dished out in the Enterprise Motor Group Patutahi Christmas tournament on Saturday.

Ruru highlighted his 90-24-66 with a two in posting one of the rounds of the day.

Waikohu made it a double as Marg Tuapawa’s 102-35-67 was the women’s top overall net.

Locals earned their fair share of the prizes — Denise Johnston, Andrea Haisman, Lorraine Haisman, Eddie Brown Jr, Tony Green, Mason Smith, Brian Wallace and Reuben Mottart among the winners.

Electrinet Gisborne Park pair Craig Christophers (78) and Shaun Pahina (83) collected gross honours in their sections.

Waikohu/Poverty Bay/Te Puia Springs joint member William Brown had an adventurous journey to the low score of the day.

His 71 — off a +4-handicap, featured six birdies in 14 holes but also a triple bogey and double bogey in the latter stages.

Joe Blair and Helen Humble won the Guy Farmer mixed pairs South African stableford on Sunday with 74 points.

NOT many courses around the world finish with six par-4s.

That makes Poverty Bay a little special and for the lower-handicapped players, making par or better on that long stretch is a mission to be accomplished.

Stefan Andreassen did the minimum requirement last Thursday — six pars on the trot — in an outstanding round of 70-3-67, for 41 points, and victory in the division 1 men’s stableford.

But like many good players always searching for better, Andreassen’s autopsy of the round had him regretting missed opportunities that would have put him in the 60s.

Looking at the card, however, the positives far outweighed any lamentations — two birdies in a front-nine 2-under 34, just the one bogey (the 12th) and the rest pars. A great day at the fairway office.

It only took a week for Rob Johnstone to play golfing second fiddle to wife Sue.

Having been in Sue’s shadow after her winning performance in the club’s Christmas hams tournament the weekend before, Johnston stepped into the victory spotlight in the Sunday School’s Christmas 6x6x6-hole annual pairs net seven days later.

For the second year running, Johnstone (Rob) won the trophy, this time pairing with John Van Helden to post 59.75 to win by 1.5 shots.

The tournament format was six holes of ambrose, six of best-ball net and six of Canadian foursomes.

Tene Goldsmith usually hits some pretty good form at this time of the year. Saturday underlined that as he topped round 2 of the Summer Cup net series.

‘‘Goldie’’ shot 76-7-69, with Andy Abrahams (79-8-71) second.

New member Travis White is on a sharp handicap descent. White won the division 2 stableford on Saturday with an eye-popping 94-33-61, for 47 points — an emphatic way to break 100, which he followed up with 47 for nine holes on Sunday.

Sunday — Stableford: D Twigley 35.

Twos: D Patumaka.

SATURDAY — Men’s stableford, division 1: T Goldsmith 39, A Abrahams 37, A Kirkpatrick 35.

Division 2: T White 47, D McFadyen 34.

Twos: D Jenkins, T Goldsmith, A Abrahams.

Thursday (Dec 16) — Men’s stableford, division 1: S Andreassen 41, A Hayward 38, A Abrahams 38, P Clayton 37, G Morley 37.

Division 2: D Atkins 39, P Goodwin 36, W Thompson 36, R Veall 35, P Graham 35, M Mulrooney 35.

Twos: C Poole, A White, G Morley, M Jefferson, V Richardson.

CARNEY Pipi anchored a victorious combination in the Colin Campbell Cup drawn mixed pairs on Sunday.

Pipi and Cliff Nepe were drawn together for the aggregate stableford competition, with Pipi providing 39 of their 75 points.

Kino White and James Witika were second on 73.

Pipi’s efforts were also the top individual stableford on countback from Rod Moore, who had two twos in his 74 off the stick.

SUNDAY — Colin Campbell Cup drawn mixed pairs aggregate stableford: C Pipi/C Nepe 75, K White/J Witika 73, R Taiapa/R Moore 72.

Individual stableford: C Pipi 39, R Moore 39, J Witika 38.

Twos: J White, R Moore 2, D Harrison, T Akroyd.

Percy Milner turned up the heat as he led the Guys to victory in their matchplay clash with the Dolls on Sunday,

The lead-in to the club’s annual prize-giving, the G v D battle for bragging rights always produces something special.

Milner provided that in his round of 4-over 74-10-64, for 43 stableford points. His front nine holes 3-under 32, including four birdies was the clubhouse talking point.

SUNDAY — Guys v Dolls matchplay: Guys 6 Dolls 4.5.

Men’s stableford: P Milner 43, A Coker 41, T Smith 39, L Green 38.

Men’s stableford: E Wynyard 37, A Tamanui-Nunn 34, M Tuapawa 32, V Grace 30.

COMING UP: There is no club competition until Sunday, January 9; a Merry Christmas to everyone.
