PatutahiThe King of the Coast is now also the King of the Country.

Hukanui followed up his breakthrough King of the Coast win at Tolaga Bay several months ago with the King of the Country crown at Patutahi over the weekend.

King Huks won the senior men’s 36-hole net title with 135. He had rounds of 70, 69 off a 2-handicap.

Tony Green blazed his way to 73-10-63 on Saturday but faded on Sunday. His 134 total, however, was still good enough to win the intermediate men’s 36-hole net.

Sonny Maynard won the junior men’s 36-hole net with 133.

Gisborne ParkA first sub-par round at Park is in Zane Boyle’s sights.

And it probably should have come on Sunday.

Boyle posted an excellent 1-over 73-8-65 in winning the men’s stableford with 43 points.

He had five birdies, including a two, but was left to rue a triple-bogey-7 on the 16th hole where he had drain issues.

But that’s the cruel reality of a game where you can pay a hefty price for one mistake.

Boyle has shot even-par a couple of times. That red number will inevitably come.

Cliff Nepe and Margaret Alley outclassed the field in the Campbell Cup mixed pairs stableford on Sunday.

Their 43-point total was four clear of the pack.

White won the division 1 men’s stableford on Sunday with 3-over 75-9-66, for 42 points.

It was a timely return to form for White, who has had a few swing issues in recent months, culminating in his handicap rising from five to nine.

Next week he will look to continue his revival when the Paul “Camp Mother” Rickard-led Sunday Schoolers head to Taupo for rounds at Kinloch, Centennial and Turangi, and one at Rotorua on the way home.
