Hiria McClutchie got her 2021 golfing year off to a sensational start in the first round of the Summer Cup on Sunday.
McClutchie officially broke 90 for the first time — 87-29-58, for 46 points — in a one-horse women’s stableford race.
Her efforts were highlighted by a two on the ninth hole.
Second-placed Doreen Goldsmith was nine points adrift.
Peter Harrison’s 39 points was the best of the men.

Helen Humble and Wynne MacLellan turned up the scoring heat in the meat pack nine-hole stableford on Friday.
MacLellan outgunned the senior division field with a 25-point haul while Humble was even better, amassing 27 to top the junior section.

A run of three birdies helped Pete Stewart to an encouraging start to his 2021 golfing year.
The man known as “Legend” won the men’s stableford on Sunday with 74-6-68, for 40 points. His round featured birdies from the 11th to 13th holes.
It was his lowest official round at the Park since shifting from Poverty Bay last year although his low round of the year was a 1-over 73 at the Bay.
He was promptly brought back to Earth on Monday with 88 at Ohope International.

New member Lisa Morrison and Zac Horomia have sipped from the chalice of golfing glory over the last two Sundays.
Morrison, awaiting her first official handicap, comfortably won the December 27 stableford with 113-54-59, for 44 points — a round that included two pars.
Horomia was out on his own the Sunday just gone in winning the net with 101-38-63.

Gisborne East Coast Veteran Golfers Association’s first competition of the year is the annual Poverty Bay versus Gisborne Park challenge at Poverty Bay on Tuesday, January 19.
Report at 9.30am for a 10.30am start.
It is a mixed stableford event for all GEC vets.
Anaru Reedy marked his 50th birthday with what is believed to be a record round for his age.
Reedy, a former Bay member now at Electrinet Park, shot 6-under 66 off the championship tees (with placing) on Saturday, January 2.
It is understood Reedy is the oldest player to have carded such a score at the Bay in a history dating back to 1893.
Reedy turned on a short-game masterclass, according to those who played alongside him.
He had six birdies in his matching nines of 3-under 33, and just 24 putts over the 18 holes.
