SPEEDWAY

THE Gisborne Gladiators stockcar team hoped to go into action at last at midday today at the New Zealand teams championships in Stratford after rain cancelled qualifying last night.

The organisers rescheduled the event to start at midday today, with qualifying through this afternoon, then quarterfinals, semifinals and a final tonight.

Ethan Rees (127G), James Kirk (31G), James Clarke (29G), Ben Holt (4G) and Mason O’Dwyer (99G), along with reserve Jordan Fleetwod (16G), will be in action.

It promises to be a tough afternoon for all 13 teams involved.

Teams will have three hours between qualifying this afternoon and the finals tonight to repair any vehicle damage from the qualifying races.

“It will be the same for everybody,” a Gisborne Speedway Club spokesman said.

Gisborne Speedway Club decided this morning to cancel tonight’s meeting at the Eastland Group Raceway because of the wet and uncertain weather.

Club president Neil Gooch said the track was too wet to race on.
