Gisborne Gladiators finished on the podium at the New Zealand Stockcar Teams Championship in Stratford after four wins from five match-ups.

Wet weather forced organisers to shift the whole event to Saturday, from qualifying right through to the final that night.

The Gladiators — captain Ethan Rees, James Kirk, James Clarke, Ben Holt, Mason O’Dwyer and reserve Willy McClune — were third overall.

They beat Whanganui and Waikato in the qualifying rounds, and Greymouth in the quarterfinals, but lost to eventual winners Stratford in a semifinal.

The Gisborne team smashed the Rotorua Rascals in the run-off for third place.
