Surf lifesaving
Midway surf lifesaver Yahni Brown was in the medals at the Australian championships at North Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast.
Brown was a member of the Alexandra Headland teams who placed second in the final of the Under-19 male single ski relay and third in the surf teams’ final. He was seventh in the U19 ski.
Waikanae’s Briana Irving, wearing her Gisborne club cap at the Aussies, added a fourth-equal in the open female beach flags to the gold she won in the beach sprint.
Former Waikanae clubbie Oska Smith, competing for Northcliffe at the Aussies, was seventh in the open male beach sprint final and 10th in the flags. He was a member of the Northcliffe teams who won the open male beach relay and were third in the open mixed beach relay.
Australia-based Midway clubbie Cory Taylor, representing Northcliffe, was in the open male team who were fourth in the taplin relay and 10th in the ironman.
