THE Gisborne and New Zealand speedway fraternity is mourning the loss of one of the sport’s long-time drivers and officials.
Murray Michie passed away on Monday. He was clerk of the course at Eastland Group Raceway and for many years raced saloon cars at the Gisborne track and around the
country.
“It has come as a shock to all of us, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Murray’s family,” Gisborne Speedway Club president Grant MacGregor said.
“He was an active club member and official after he finished racing, and has been clerk of our course for the past 10 years.
“We had our final race meeting for the season scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
