Gisborne riders Holly Baines and Fraser Tombleson achieved top-three placings at the Taupo Christmas Classic equestrian event yesterday.
Baines rode Halo to first-equal place in the six-year-old series, alongside 11 other combinations.
Also on Halo, Baines won the 1.15-metre championship and was third in the amateur rider series.
Tombleson,who — riding Mea I — won the fourth round of the FEI World Cup New Zealand League on Saturday, yesterday rode Eye See Ruby to first-equal place in the five-year-old series. Eleven other combinations were also tied in first place.
Gisborne’s Amelia Paull, riding Envious Edition (owned by John Larsen), was sixth in the pony mini prix 1.20m, and Dannevirke’s Robert Steele was second in the seven-year-old series on Two Eye See (owned by Mick Gardner).
