GISBORNE Park women’s golf team’s short trip down the road ended in a district title on Monday, and it could ultimately reap national glory.

The Park crew of Jean Foot, Carney Pipi, Blanche Walker and Wiki Morrissey won the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay district final of the national teams’ competition hosted by Poverty Bay.

They topped a field of 11 clubs — five from Poverty Bay and six from Hawke’s Bay.

The format was four-ball best-ball net strokeplay over 18 holes. Foot and Pipi joined forces as one combination; Morrissey and Walker the other.

Foot and Pipi posted a net 64 while Walker and Morrissey totalled 68 for a team total of 132. They finished four shots ahead of Poverty Bay (136), with Maraenui (of Napier) third on 140.
