CRICKET

Gisborne Intermediate tomorrow holds its final TW Challenge cricket match of the season.

The inter-syndicate game — between the Ts and the Ws — starts at 9.15am.

The Ts are drawn from the Taruheru and Turanganui syndicates, the Ws from the Waipaoa and Waimata syndicates.

Ts captain Sebastian Wilson, who led the first 11 at the Northern Districts finals of the National Primary School Cup last week, hopes the teams make the most of playing a 35-over game.

All-rounder Wilson took eight wickets and made runs (30 not-out and 31) against Berkley of Hamilton and ND champions Tauranga.

“We need a mentality to bat time, which comes from facing more than 25 balls,” he said.

Year 7 batsman Kelan Bryant of the Ws (50 off 45 balls for Gisborne Intermediate in the game against St Peter’s) and fellow first 11 opener Gareth Langford of the Ts (37 against Tauranga and a four-six 25 against Pukekohe) could get among the runs; so, too, could Noah Torrance-Cribb of the Ts (24 off 14 balls against St Peter’s).

Year 7 student Bekko Page took his first wicket for the first 11 against Kamo last week and has the potential to turn games with bat as well as ball.

Peter Reynolds and Dylan Foster worked well as Wilson’s vice-captains in Papamoa last week, but as co-captains of the Ws, they’re up for tomorrow’s game.

Ts: Sebastian Wilson (captain), Gareth Langford, Noah Torrance-Cribb, Campbell Steele, Angus Henry, Bekko Page, Kyle Seabrook, Cory Thomson, Charlie Newman, Ascha Wells, Wade Perrett, Theo Weatherley.

Ws: Peter Reynolds (co-captain), Dylan Foster (co-captain), Henry Watson, Kelan Bryant, Dylan O’Rourke, Luke Stoltenberg, Jacob Scholefield, Dylan Worsnop, John Broad, Ky Bartlett, Muzammil Khan, Terrence Waru Hopa.
