Gisborne Fisheries Athletic are the Super League intermediate football champions for 2017. Athletic started the season with a 7-6 loss to Mastercraft Kitchens United but from then on won every match — most of those by handsome margins — to finish top of the table on 33 points from 11 wins and one loss. They averaged nearly 10 goals a game, scoring 120 and conceding 30 for a goal differential of 89 — 40 better than second-placed Chrisp and Davidson Albion. The Athletic team are, standing (from left): Coach Paul Bull, Alex Davies, Jaycob Haynes, Oliver Davies, Breeze Parsons, Noah Spurr, Luke Patumaka, Callum Kent and Sofia Zame. Front: Daniel Watts, Paratene Moran and Kade Walder.

THE winter sports season is all but over and The Gisborne Herald has recorded the successes of many teams, but we would love to acknowledge the many more out there.

If you would like your champion side recognised in the sports pages, please email us a decent-sized photo (1MB is ideal) of your team with names and relevant information to sports@gisborneherald.co.nz

We kick off our champion teams coverage with two photos and look forward to publishing more.
