JAN Steele and Kirsty Shaw are the No.1 seeds in the 2021 edition of the Kahlenberg Cup women’s pairs.
Steele and Shaw top qualified with a best-ball stableford total of 42 points, with Mary Allan and Sue Kemp second.
Qualifying was held on Monday and Wednesday and pairs were able to play either or both days to post a qualifying score.
Kemp was the bounceback story of qualifying. She posted a mere 18 points in horrible weather conditons on Monday but made up for that emphatically on Wednesday with 36.
The first round of matchplay is on Wednesday next week.
A 24-point homeward nine set Paul Rickard up for victory in the division 2 men’s stableford on Sunday.
“Rick”, fresh from chopping his way around multiple courses at a veterans’ matchplay tournament around the Wellington region, had 2-over 38 on the back nine to finish with 84-16-68, for 40 points.

SELWYN Pohatu produced his best round in many a golfing moon in Te Kani Pere and McKeague cup qualifying on Sunday.
Pohatu had two birdies in his 3-over 73-8-65 to top the senior men’s net while Garth Tattersfield (72) was best of the junior men’s division and Andrea Haisman (70) led the women.

Logan could manage only 71 but had accumulated enough points (4) to hold on for the overall title.

DAN Maitai warmed up for the Endeavour men’s interclub pennants finale with a Sunday competition win.
Maitai’s 81-14-67 was the best of the six 18-hole rounds he has had at Tolaga Bay this year.
He will look to convert that form as part of Tolaga Bay’s six-man side at the final round of the Endeavour at Poverty Bay this Sunday.
