Taylor ousted top qualifier Rod Moore, also on the 16th.

Danny Boyle moved to within a win of adding another intermediate title to his name. Boyle defeated Anthony Pahina 5 and 4 in their semi.

Anderson faces William Brown in the matchplay semifinals this Saturday after a matchplay doubleheader over the weekend.

He faced a shock early ejection in his Saturday round 1 match against 72-year-old Tene Goldsmith.

“Goldie” led 3-up with four holes to play and 2-up with two to go only for Anderson to claw his way back, including birdies on the 15th and 18th, and snatch victory on the first extra hole.

His 1-up Sunday semifinal win against Hukanui Brown was similarly pressure-filled. All-square playing 18 after trailing 3-down after five holes, Anderson left a birdie putt millimetres short of the hole, then watched as Brown failed to up-and-down for par.

William Brown took a less stressful path to the last four. He won holes 10 to 14 to dispose of Tuki Sweeney 5 and 4 on Saturday, then knocked out defending champion Andrew Higham 2 and 1 in the quarters.

The other semi pits Poverty Bay-East Coast masters teammates Anaru Reedy and Simon Jeune.

Top qualifier Reedy got a solid workout by 16th seed George Brown before ending their first-round match on the 17th. He got off to a flyer in his Sunday quarterfinal clash with Glenn Morley, with birdies on three of the first five holes, en route to a 4 and 3 win.

Jeune crushed Vance Richardson on Saturday then came out on top in the battle of the 50-plussers on Sunday, defeating Stefan Andreassen on the 18th.

Gray Clapham’s intermediate campaign looked all but over after nine holes of his quarterfinal with Pete Hakiwai. The 11th seed trailed 4-down and was heard to say he “wanted to go home” only to blitz the second nine and win on the 17th.

It set up a semifinal against defending champion Neil Mackie, who comfortably accounted for Colin Christie 5 and 4 in their quarter clash.

Top seed Richard Foon failed to turn up for the opening nine holes of his Sunday match against Clive Dean. Foon was 6-down at the turn and despite restoring some pride on the back nine, fell 3 and 2.

Dean will play recently-crowned Barns-Graham Cup men’s pairs champion Darryl Grant, who tussled for 18 holes before getting the better of James Situ.

Hamish Williams made birdie on the 18th to put away top seed Basil Payne in the junior quarterfinals. Next up for Williams is Mark Stewart.

Bill Simpson got a free pass to the junior semis after his opponent failed to front. Warwick Thompson, who beat Stu Harbottle 3 and 2 in his quarterfinal, awaits him in the semis.

All finals are on September 7.

n Last year’s intermediate champion is a win away from the premier women’s club championship honour.

Mary Allan defeated Lynne Holmberg in their senior women’s (silver division) semifinal yesterday to keep alive her chances of adding senior honours to her intermediate successes.

She faces top qualifier Marg Colebourne in the 36-hole matchplay final on September 4. Colebourne knocked out Jan Utting.

The top seeds also advanced to finals in the other divisions.

June MacKinnon, who lost to Allan in last year’s intermediate final, beat Sharon Bramwell. Her final opponent is Anne Gemmell, who saw off Jan Steele.
