Gisborne’s Rob Hayes and Lynn Davies, of the Barry Memorial Croquet Club, were members of a four-person Hawke’s Bay team who won the Lower North Island Golf Croquet Teams Championship in Palmerston North. Over two days they played teams from Manawatū-Whanganui, South Taranaki, Wairarapa, Taranaki and Wellington. In the doubles,Hayes and his partner won three games from five, as did Davies and her partner. In the singles, Hayes won three games from five, and Davies won two from five.
Barry Memorial Croquet Club held a levels golf croquet tournament for players with handicaps of nine and over. Competition winner Will Humphreys won five of his six games, his only loss coming against his wife Barb. Runner-up Anna Wells had four wins from six, as did Barb Humphreys and Ina Elzen, but Wells had the best differential of the three so took second place.
