GISBORNE Gymnastics Club gymnasts returned from the Hastings club championships with a swag of medals.

Lukas Ludwig continued his run of good form and won the Level 3 boys’ competition. He also won floor and pommel, and placed second on rings, parallel bars and high bar. On his favourite apparatus, the vault, some small steps in his landing meant he placed fourth.

Greer Robertson, competing in Step 1, won the vault and placed second on beam. Greer is a gymnast to watch out for in the future. She has great natural talent, loves gymnastics, and is flexible, strong and brave. These are great qualities to help in becoming the best you can be in this difficult sport.

Ralo Bright won the Step 2 girls’ overall competition, and best friend Danielle Blair placed second overall. Ralo won floor, vault and uneven bars and placed fourth on beam. Danielle was third on beam, placed fifth on floor and bars, and was sixth on vault.

Gisborne had double success in Step 3, where Sarai Gudgeon won the all-round event and Gloria Allen was second overall. Sarai won vault, uneven bars and beam, and placed third on floor. Gloria won floor and was second on vault, bars and beam. Charli Candy, the other member of the team, was eighth overall and was fourth on uneven bars. The Step 3 team of Sarai, Gloria and Charli won gold overall.

Silke McNaught won silver overall in the Step 4 event. She won the vault, and was third on uneven bars and beam, and fifth on floor.

In Step 5, Gabrielle Wong was overall winner of the 11-and-over division and Jade Swann was overall winner of the 10-and-under division. Gabrielle was second on vault and uneven bars, and third on floor. Jade was first on floor, second equal on vault, and third on uneven bars and beam. Both girls have set their targets high for the season and want to be selected for the national championships in Invercargill this year.
