Surf lifeguards from around the country are at Mount Maunganui this weekend to compete in one of the biggest surf life saving events in the country.

The Gisborne clubs will be ready for action. This year, surf lifeguards from 34 clubs, including Wainui for the first time in a couple of seasons, will be competing in a wide variety of events.

The 725 athletes involved in the championships start racing from 8am this morning and the organisers are thrilled to have such fantastic entries.
