Close winning margins are becoming a bit of a scarcity in Gisborne Club Darts Association Tuesday night competition and Tutu finds no joy in writing about one-sided contests. This week’s game worthy of a mention was that between 2NZ Rebels and 2NZ Say My Name Again, won by the hosts (Rebels) 9-6.

Midway through the pairs, the Rebels romped to a 4-1 lead, then Say My Name Again shared the spoils 2-2 from the last four to go into the singles trailing 6-3.

The most effective Rebel point-duo on the night were Lee Barbarich and Lorenzo Kaa, who took three from three — first 2-1 against Kayne Arahanga and Tui Duncan, then 2-0 against Thao Duncan and Webster Lewis, and finally 2-0 against Aimee Collier and Peter Hema.

Rebels’ mid-pairing of Jesse Noanoa and Tina Aspalter were unable to emulate their colleagues, taking two legs but succumbing 2-0 to Thao Duncan and Webster.

Anchor-pair Mark Edwards and Charlie Reiri secured the sixth point for Rebels, 2-0 from Collier and Hema.

The singles section was not so one-way as Say My Name Again’s top order — Arahanga, Tui Duncan and Thao Duncan levelled the scores 6-6 dousing the dominance of Barbarich, Kaa and Noanoa’s pairs performances.

But that was where the Say My Name Again comeback ceased, as Rebel’s lower-order of Aspalter, Edwards and Reiri suppressed all remaining opposition.

Individual highlights worth a mention were those of Kayne Arahanga topping the 100-plus score tally (12) for the night and teammate Thao Duncan scoring a brace of 180s.

Individual top-and-tail honours went to 2NZ Bullz captain Tom Irwin plugging a 180 with his first three darts of the night, then tailing it with a 145 finish.
